In the last 20 months in Varanasi, the Food Safety Department has collected more than 1600 samples of food items from different places of the city and sent them for testing. More than 01 thousand samples failed in the investigation. Food items were not considered fit for consumption.

The Food Safety Department inspected more than 10 thousand places in Varanasi in the last 20 months (financial year 2023-24 and till November in the current financial year). Raids were conducted in 1318 hotels, restaurants, dhabas, cafes, bars.
During the raid, the Food Safety Department collected more than 1600 samples and sent them to the lab for testing.
