The passengers gave a detailed account of the fearful incident and said that they saw fire emitting off the wing of the Air Canada plane on Saturday night.
An Air Canada passenger plane made a narrow escape on Saturday night after a wing of the plane skidded along the pavement during landing at the Halifax airport, causing fire to a part of it, CBC News reported.
The incident took place at around 9.30 pm AT.
Passenger Details Account
The plane was arriving from St. John’s when it suffered a problem while landing, titled at around a 20-degree angle to the left, and a crash-like loud sound came, according to a passenger, Nikki Valentine.
One of the plane’s tires did not deploy properly upon landing, she said.
“The plane started to sit at about a 20-degree angle to the left and, as that happened, we heard a pretty loud — what almost sounded like a crash sound — as the wing of the plane started to skid along the pavement, along with what I presume was the engine,” she told CBC News.
Valentine said that the plane skidded down the runway for a ‘decent’ distance as the pilots applied the breaks to stop the plane.
“The plane shook quite a bit and we started seeing fire on the left side of the plane and smoke started coming in the windows,” she said.
A statement issued by the airport said that Air Canada Flight 2259 was involved in the incident and was operated by PAL Airlines.
It does not specify how many people were on board.
