After conceding 34 runs in 33 balls against Sam Konstas in the first innings of the ongoing fourth Test between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Jasprit Bumrah managed to settle the scores against the Australian opener in the second innings on Sunday, December 29. On the third ball of the seventh over of Australia’s second innings, Bumrah breached 19-year-old Konstas’ defence and shattered his stumps. The former U19 World Cup winner, who replaced Nathan McSweeney as Australia’s opener for the Boxing Day Test, could only manage to score 8 runs from 18 balls in the second innings.

After getting the better of the right-handed batter from New South Wales, who scored 60 runs from 65 balls in the first innings, Bumrah came up with an epic celebration that is now going viral on the internet. Bumrah’s celebration was inspired by Konstas’ itself. The Indian seamer, who sits at No. 1 position in the ICC Test bowler’s ranking, copied Konstas’ pumping the crowd celebration after Virat Kohli’s wicket in the first innings.

Here’s a look:

By taking Konstas’ wicket, Bumrah completed 150 wickets in the World Test Championship. He is the fifth bowler after Ravichandran Ashwin (195), Nathan Lyon (193), Pat Cummins (192), and Mitchell Starc (161) to dismiss 150 or more batters in the WTC.

Bumrah has 71 wickets to his name in 14 matches played so far in the ongoing 2023-25 edition of WTC. If he manages to take one more wicket in the ongoing match, then he will break Ashwin’s record of taking the most wickets in a single edition of the WTC for India.

Ashwin, who retired from international cricket on December 18, 2024, also accounted for the dismissal of 71 batters in 14 matches for India in the 2019-21 edition of WTC. The overall record for taking the most wickets in one edition of the WTC is in the name of Lyon, who got rid of 88 batters in 20 matches for the Baggy Greens in the 2021-23 edition of the World Test Championship.

Bumrah has 199 wickets to his name in the five-day format of the game, and one more scalp in the ongoing match will help him break Kapil Dev’s record of being the fastest Indian pacer to take 200 wickets in Tests.
