During an appearance on Karan Johar’s chat show, Twinkle revealed that it began as a fling.

“I had come out of a long-term relationship and I wanted to just, for the first time in my life, have a fling. So I decided I was going to have one. There he was, ‘6 feet of chocolate ice-cream’, I’m going to have a fling,” she said.

Things did not turn out as they planned, though and they both fell for each other. Although they continued dating, marriage was never on the cards for them until Twinkle lost a bet to Akshay.

Apparently, the duo decided to marry each other following a bet wherein Twinkle assured the actor to marry him if Mela did not work at the box office.

Sharing details about the same, Akshay, in the same chat show, added, “She was very confident about Mela and said that if the film didn’t work, she would get married. Fortunately for me, Mela flopped, and we got married.”

Notably, Mela was released in 2000. A year after the film arrived in cinemas, Twinkle Khanna and Akshay Kumar got married. The couple tied the knot on January 17, 2001.

It was an intimate low-key wedding that took place at the residence of designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.

Now, a power couple of Bollywood, Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna’s love has stood the test of the time. A year into their marriage, the couple welcomed their son Aarav in 2002. Later, they were also blessed with a daughter named Nitara, who was born in 2012.

Currently, Twinkle Khanna is a successful author, with some notable books credited to her name. On the other hand, Akshay continues to be at the top of the business as he is still one of the most sought-after actors in the industry.
