In view of the falling temperature and cold wave in Muzaffarnagar, DM Umesh Mishra has declared holiday on December 31 in all schools from classes 1 to 8. The administration has taken this decision giving priority to the safety of children.

The death of 35-year-old Kallu in a night shelter amidst the cold in the district shocked the people. However, it became clear in the postmortem report that illness, not cold, was the cause of his death.

Deceased Kallu, resident of Chandheri village of Jansath block, used to live by begging. He was found dead in the night shelter of Khatauli Municipality on Monday morning. Earlier, he was found on the road under the influence of alcohol and was sent to a night shelter by the municipality employees. Initially it was feared that Kallu might have died due to severe cold. But the postmortem report confirmed death due to disease.
Adequate arrangements in night shelters
Khatauli Municipality officials said that adequate arrangements have been made for the needy in night shelters. But Kallu’s condition was already bad.
Cold prevention instructions
The administration has advised citizens to be cautious of cold and wear adequate warm clothes. Instructions have also been given to improve the system in night shelters. So that there is no loss of life due to cold. These incidents are a warning to both the administration and the public amid the increasing outbreak of cold. Cold prevention measures and vigilance are the only way to stay safe.
