The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Indian National Congress (INC), has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding that the Delhi University college be named after Dr. Manmohan Singh instead of Hindutva ideologue VD Savarkar.
The letter, written by NSUI national president Varun Choudhary, called on PM Modi to honour the legacy of former Prime Minister by naming the college after him.
In the letter, dated January 2, Choudhary highlighted Singh’s significant contributions to India’s education sector, including the Central Universities Act of 2009, the Right to Education Act, and the establishment of prestigious institutions such as IITs, IIMs, and AIIMS across the country.
“He established numerous universities and brought the Central Universities Act. A Central University must also be dedicated to his name,” Choudhary also wrote in a post on X Thursday.
