Liverpool are expected to compete with Manchester City to acquire the services of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. Liverpool were close to signing Zubimendi in the last summer transfer window but failed as the Spanish footballer decided to stay with the LaLiga side. Liverpool are now understood to be interested once again in landing Zubimendi. An article published by AS, as per Football Fancast, stated that the Reds are set to fight for Zubimendi this month with many interested outfits allegedly looking to sign the Spaniard. Other sides that are interested in signing the 25-year-old are Manchester City and Real Madrid. Zubimendi’s release clause is understood to be valued at €60 million.

Martin Zubimendi, who was a part of Spain’s Euro 2024 winning team, was closely followed by Liverpool last summer. But the Merseyside-based outfit were told that Zubmendi would not be leaving Real Sociedad. Zubimendi excelled in the Euro 2024 final against England where he replaced Rodri at half-time as Spain clinched a 2-1 win. Zubimendi has been at Sociedad since 2011 and he scored four times last season.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot recently talked about his side’s possible new arrivals in the January transfer window. The Dutchman said that he does not expect the Reds to make any signings during the January transfer window. “There’s nothing in the media yet about who we’re going to bring in? No? And also not in my mind. I’m very happy with the squad we have, I said this six months ago and everybody was like ‘is this guy crazy?’ But I think the players show the confidence the club and me had in them was all deserved,” Slot said, as per Liverpool.com.

“If you look at Jarell Quansah, he hadn’t played a lot until now, a few appearances. The way he played today shows how important it is that we keep working with these players, because we’re going to need all of them at a certain moment,” Arne Slot added.

Liverpool have had a tremendous season so far. They currently claim the top spot in the Premier League standings with 45 points from 18 matches. They have conceded just a defeat till now in this season’s Premier League. Second-placed Arsenal are six points behind Liverpool having played a game more than the Reds. In their next match, Liverpool will be up against Manchester United on Sunday, January 5.
