That is why after several days of brainstorming the date has been changed this time. The festival started in Gorakhpur in 1997. Four years later, in 2001, it was organized once again. At that time its appearance was not so grand. In 2016, it was conducted for 4 days as an experiment. It started being organized continuously from 2018.

It was organized even during the Covid period. In Gorakhpur, the festival of Khichdi is celebrated with great pomp on the 14th. Every time the festival was held from 11th to 13th January and the police and administrative officials had to immediately take charge of the Khichdi fair as soon as the festival was over.

The event was organized with the help of traders In 2016, the then Commissioner P Guruprasad had organized the festival in the Gorakhpur University campus. At that time, Bollywood artists were invited to this festival held from 29 January to 1 February. This event was completely organized with private support. The event could not be held the following year.

When Yogi became the Chief Minister, the government also started participating. When Yogi Adityanath took over the reins of the state after the 2017 assembly elections, the form of Gorakhpur Mahotsav also became grand. By the time the government was formed, the time for the festival had passed, so the focus was on organizing the event in 2018. The date was fixed as 11 to 13 January. There was a grand event that year. Shaan and Shankar Mahadevan performed in it. After this, the festival was organized on the same date in 2019 also. This year Sukhwinder Singh and Mohit Chauhan had given their presentation.

The festival was over before Covid struck in 2020 Gorakhpur Mahotsav had ended even before the Covid period started in 2020. Lockdown was imposed after 22 March and the festival ended from 11 to 14 January. Its date was fixed from 11th to 13th January only. But due to the death of Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman, all the programs of 13 were postponed. The programs of 13th were shifted to 14th. Sonu Nigam’s performance was going to happen on the last day. But he was asked to perform on the 14th. Sonu did not agree. Later, their program for 2022 was fixed with this money. Time reduced by one day in 2021 The festival was organized in 2021 despite the impact of Covid. But the deadline was reduced. This time the event was organized only for two days on 12th and 13th January. In 2022, the event was held on 11 and 12 January. In 2023, the event was held from 11th to 13th. The event was organized on the same date in 2024 also.

Preparations in full swing, pandal is being set up Preparations for the festival have started. Divisional Commissioner Anil Dhingra, District Magistrate Krishna Karunesh and GDA Vice President Anand Vardhan inspected Champa Devi Park. He has directed to complete the work as soon as possible. The German Hamburg Pandal is being built for the event. This time the main stage will be towards the west.

Cleanliness campaign started A cleaning campaign was started at the venue by the Panchayati Raj Department. Under the leadership of Deputy Director Panchayat Himanshu Shekhar Thakur, cleaning was done at the pandal and other places. During this period, 100 rural sanitation workers were deployed. DC Consultant Bachha Singh, AUO Piprauli Arvind Singh, Kaudiram Sanjay Pandey etc. were present during the cleaning.
