New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by 113 runs in the second ODI. Batting first, New Zealand scored 255 runs at the Seddon Park Stadium in Hamilton on Wednesday. In reply, Sri Lanka could score only 142 runs. With this result, New Zealand also took a 2-0 lead in the 3-ODI series.

Due to rain the match was reduced to 37-37 overs. Spinner Mahish Teekshana took a hat-trick from Sri Lanka, despite this the team did not win. Rachin Ravindra, who scored a fifty from New Zealand, was the player of the match. The third ODI will be played in Auckland on 11 January.

Mahish completed his hat-trick by dismissing captain Mitchell Santner, Nathan Smith and Matt Henry on consecutive balls. Teekshana took 4 wickets in the match. Apart from them, Wanindu Hasaranga got 2 wickets, Ishan Malinga got 1 wicket and Asitha Fernando also got 1 wicket. A batter runout also occurred.
