Class 12 Student Detained For Bomb Threats To 23 Delhi Schools, Wanted To Skip Exams – News18
Last Updated:
Delhi schools have received a spate of bomb threats in the recent past. All of them have turned out to be hoax after investigation. Delhi Police have detained a student.
Days after a series of bomb threats put the Delhi Police on alert, a Class 12 student was detained for his alleged involvement in the threat emails, which later turned hoax, to schools in the national capital, sources said on Friday.
Around 10 educational institutes received bomb threats on Thursday, the latest in the series.
It was found during the investigation that the detained student sent out the threat emails to schools to avoid sitting for school exams.
According to the officials, he sent bomb threats at least six times and marked different schools each time except his own.
He always tagged multiple schools on the email to avoid suspicion falling on him. In this process, he sent the email to 23 schools at once, officials said.
Officials said that he did not want to take the exam and therefore plotted a plan to issue hoax bomb threats to schools, which he thought would get the exams cancelled.
Several political leaders, including the Delhi Ministers, had questioned the Delhi Police for the inability to contain the bomb threats to schools and deteriorating law and order situation in the city.
Chief Minister Atishi, former CM Arvind Kejriwal, and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia had slammed the Delhi Police and Centre over the repeated bomb threats that disrupted education, compelling students to be rushed back to their homes.
At least 40 Delhi schools, including DPS RK Puram and GD Goenka School in Paschim Vihar, had received bomb threat emails last year, in which the sender demanded $30,000.
