The minimum temperature sharply declined to 7 degrees Celsius at 5.30 am, bringing another round of cold wave conditions in the national capital on Friday morning, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather bureau had predicted the minimum temperature at 6 degrees Celsius in Delhi on Friday, while the maximum temperature was around 20 degrees Celsius with “very dense fog.”
Flight, Train Operation Hit
In the wake of the dense fog that caused zero visibility in the national capital, the Delhi Airport issued an advisory for the passengers stating that there has been an impact on flight operations. It further advised the passengers to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information.
“Due to dense Fog, there has been impact on Flight departures, however, flights which are CAT III compliant can land and depart from Delhi Airport. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” the advisory reads.
Several trains were also delayed across major railway junctions in the national capital, including New Delhi Railway Station, Anand Vihar Terminus, and Hazrat Nizamuddin Station.
The air quality in Delhi plunged into the ‘severe’ category, with the Central Pollution Control Board reporting an AQI of 409 at 7 a.m. today. This marks a sharp decline compared to yesterday’s AQI of 299 recorded at the same time.
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good,’ 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory,’ 101 and 200 ‘moderate,’ 201 and 300 ‘poor,’ 301 and 400 ‘very poor,’ and 401 and 500 ‘severe.’
