Impressed by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performances in the recently concluded five-match Test series against Australia, former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has reserved big praise for him.
Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik, who has donned the hat of an expert now, reserved big praise for young Indian opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and predicted a bright future for him in all three formats of the game. Jaiswal, who made his international debut for India in July 2023 against the West Indies during a Test match in Roseau, has impressed with his performances in the 2023-25 edition of the World Test Championship. With a total of 1798 runs to his name in 19 matches, he topped the run-getters list for the Rohit Sharma-led side.
In the recently concluded series against Australia, Jaiswal played in all five matches and scored 391 runs to finish as the leading run scorer for India. He hammered 161 runs in the second innings of the series opener played at Optus Stadium in Perth to set up a big 295-run win for India and 82 and 84 runs in the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Impressed by Jaiswal’s knocks in the tough Test series against Australia, which India lost with a scoreline of 1-3, Karthik said Jaiswal is a superstar for the near future, and the 23-year-old batter is going to be phenomenal for India.
“He is a superstar for the near future. Certainty in all three formats. And he is batting like an absolute gun. Wish him all the best, and he is going to be phenomenal for Team India in the near future,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz’s HeyCB with DK show.
By winning the first Test series against India after 10 years, Australia also booked its place in the final of WTC 2025. In the final, which is scheduled to take place at Lord’s from June 11-15, Australia will face South Africa, which is set to finish as the table toppers of WTC 2023-25.
Karthik, who never played for India in WTC, made his prediction for the final of WTC 2025 and backed Australia to lift the title once again. Australia, which sits at No. 1 position in the ICC Test team rankings, won its first WTC title in 2023 by getting the better of India by 209 runs in the final played at The Oval from June 7 to 11 in 2023.
