In Varanasi on Saturday, the police launched a campaign against encroachments and vehicles that were creating obstacles in the smooth traffic system. Under the campaign run in Chetganj, Dashashwamedh area, encroachment was removed at 530 places. A case has been registered against 107 people who encroached and 19 have been arrested.

Police Commissioner Mohit Aggarwal has directed all ACPs, police station in-charges and outpost in-charges to conduct a special campaign against encroachment every Saturday and Sunday. During this time, police clashed with shopkeepers and politicians also intervened at many places. However, no one stepped forward before the police.

When the Commissionerate’s forces came on the road, challans were issued against 407 vehicles parked haphazardly and 23 vehicles were seized. In Chowk police station area, the Police Commissioner told the shopkeepers that the roads are for traffic. Effective legal action will be taken against those who throw debris on the roads, operate shops or park vehicles haphazardly.
