Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid Khan, is gearing up for his first theatrical release, Loveyapa, co-starring Khushi Kapoor, the daughter of Boney Kapoor and Sridevi. At the grand trailer launch in Mumbai on Friday, Aamir, who described himself as an “absent father” during his children’s upbringing, shared heartfelt emotions about his son’s journey.
Speaking at the event, Aamir expressed, “As a father, I have been quite absent. I used to be in my own world, while my kids navigated their childhood on their own. Today, I am extremely proud of how Junaid chose a career path for himself on his own terms. It is a very emotional moment for me, and I really wish him well.”
Reflecting on his upbringing and parenting, Aamir added, “Reena (my first wife) and I tried to pass on the same discipline to Junaid and Ira that my mother gave me. I am very proud and happy with the way he is conducting himself.”
Aamir also praised Khushi Kapoor, who is making her big-screen debut after her appearance in Netflix’s The Archies. “Sri must be proud of you,” he said. “I really wish she was here to see you today.”
At the same event, Aamir revealed a personal milestone: quitting smoking. “I’m very happy to say that I’ve quit this bad habit,” he shared. “I felt I wanted to quit, especially as my son’s career is starting. I made a resolve in my heart—whether his film works or not, I’m doing this independent of that. Hope it does something somewhere in the universe.”
Directed by Advait Chandan, Loveyapa is slated for a February 7 release. The romantic comedy promises to showcase the charm and chemistry of Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor as they navigate modern relationships.
As for Aamir, he was last seen in Laal Singh Chaddha (2022) and is now preparing for his comeback with RS Prasanna’s Sitaare Zameen Par, co-starring Genelia D’Souza, and Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore: 1947, starring Sunny Deol. While Aamir will headline Sitaare Zameen Par, he is producing Lahore: 1947, marking his maiden collaboration with Santoshi.
