Their marriage garnered attention for its unconventional aspects, as Dharmendra, already married to Prakash Kaur with four children, tied the knot with Hema Malini. Interestingly, the couple chose to live separately despite being married. In an earlier interview, Hema candidly spoke about her career, family dynamics, and their distinctive arrangement of living in separate homes even after marriage.

When asked about her decision to live separately from her husband, which is often viewed as a “symbol of feminism,” Hema Malini shared her perspective with Lehren TV. She said, “Nobody wants to be like that; it happens. Automatically, naturally, what happens, you have to accept. Otherwise, nobody will feel like they want to live their life like this. No! Every woman wants to have a husband, and children, like a normal family. But somewhere, it went out of the way.”

She added, “I am not feeling bad about it or sulking or feeling sad about it. I am happy with myself. I have my two children, and I have brought them up very well.” Hema Malini also mentioned how Dharmendra is always present for her and the family.

Dharmendra married Hema Malini in 1980. He was already married to Prakash Kaur, whom he wed in 1954 at the age of 19. Dharmendra and Hema have two daughters, Esha and Ahana. Their romance reportedly began on the sets of Tum Haseen Main Jawan, with Hema hailed as Bollywood’s “Dream Girl” and Dharmendra as the ultimate action hero of the era. From his first marriage with Prakash Kaur, Dharmendra has four children—Sunny, Bobby, Vijeeta, and Ajeeta. Both Sunny and Bobby Deol have established themselves as actors, as has Esha Deol.
