Once Upon a Time in Madras, the Bharath and Abhirami starrer action film, hit the silver screens on December 13 last year. Helmed by Prasadh Murugan, the film weaves together multiple stories linked by a single firearm. It has opened to positive reviews from fans and critics alike, particularly for its engaging storyline and stellar performances. Now, nearly a month after its release at the theatres, the film has got a digital release date.
Those who are yet to watch Once Upon a Time in Madras can simply stream on Aha to watch the action-packed film. The streaming version of the movie will launch on January 17. Announcing the same, the streaming giant shared a poster on X. The caption read, “Anniki enachu na?! Aha-la paathu therinjikonga. #OnceUponATimeInMadras premieres from Jan 17.”
The story of Once Upon a Time in Madras revolves around the tale of multiple people interwoven with a common link, a gun. The film shows how the firearm keeps on passing from one individual to another while having a major impact on their lives. In the story, Rangaraj, a retired army officer, unintentionally shoots at a boy named Sudharshan and disposes of the gun in the Cooum canal.
Savitri, a single mother, discovers the gun and uses it to kill Moorthy, a loan shark who abused her daughter Aarthi. Meanwhile, Anitha’s father accidentally kills Kathir, whom he assumes to be his daughter’s lover, after finding her pregnant, only to feel guilty when he realises Kathir is innocent.
Raja, desperate for funds for his wife Rachel’s kidney transplant, murders Kowsi but later discovers he was the donor. After Rachel’s murder, he puts the firearm in Madhi’s bag, and she uses it to kill her abusive in-laws after confronting her husband’s sexuality and her own pregnancy.
Written and directed by Prasadh Murugan, the film features an ensemble cast featuring Bharath, Thalaivasal Vijay, Shaan, Abirami, PGS, Anjali Nair, Pavithra Lakshmi, Rajaji, Syed, Kalki, Sini and others. Once Upon a Time in Madras was produced by Captain MP Anand under the banners of Friday Film Factory. The music for the film was composed by Jose Franklin, and M. Jegan Kaviraj penned the lyrics. KS Kalidoss & Kannan R handled the cinematography.
