Age is just a number. Imran Tahir, 45, proved the veracity of the age-old adage during an SA20 match between Joburg Super Kings and Durban’s Super Giants played at Kingsmead in Durban on Tuesday. During the seventh over of the Durban’s Super Giants innings, Tahir made a diving effort to complete a sensational catch. Facing Donovan Ferreira, Wiaan Mulder played a flat reverse sweep. The ball went low to the right-hand side of Tahir at the backward point region. Sensing an opportunity, Tahir pulled off a dive and grabbed the ball with both hands to send Mulder back to the dressing room. Having completed a blinder, Tahir did his iconic long-run celebration. Tahir even brought out Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature Siu celebration.

Imran Tahir conceded 29 runs and picked up one wicket in his three overs to guide Joburg Super Kings to a 28-run win against Durban’s Super Giants. Tahir claimed his solitary wicket of the fixture having dismissed Brandon King for 17 in the fourth over of the innings. Chasing a target of 170, Durban’s Super Giants managed to reach 141.

Quinton de Kock did score a half-century during the chase but his 55-run innings, eventually, proved to be futile. Tabraiz Shamsi, Donovan Ferreira and Gerald Coetzee bagged two wickets each to earn a solid win for Joburg Super Kings.

Following the win, Imran Tahir credited the spinners for showcasing impressive bowling. “As a spin bowler in modern cricket, you don’t have much in your favour – small boundaries, flat wickets, big bats, and skilled players. We just keep things simple and go with our plans. We bowl to our batters in practice and ask them where it’s tough to face us, and we try to implement that in matches. Shamsi is right – spinners can spoil the party, and we hope this form continues till the end,” Tahir said, as per The Times of India.

Earlier, batting first, Joburg Super Kings posted a defendable total of 169 at the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Leus du Plooy emerged as the highest scorer for his side, playing a 38-run knock in 32 balls.
