Chunky Panday Didn’t Watch Ananya’s Call Me Bae For 3 Days: ‘It Wasn’t My Kind Of Show’ | Exclusive – News18

Chunky Panday says he’s a ‘proud, nervous’ dad. He also reacts to Ananya Panday’s remarks about not taking his advice post Liger.
Right since the beginning of her career, Ananya Panday has been at the receiving end of relentless trolling by many who felt that she has received opportunities on a platter for being a nepo kid. But last year on Netflix’s Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives, her father Chunky Panday remarked that he’s a product of ‘reverse nepotism’. He went on to share that he’s reaping the benefits of the success his daughter has been witnessing. Now, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Chunky reiterates the same and admits that while he doesn’t always agree with Ananya, he’s always supportive of her decisions and script choices.
“I’m a proud father but also a very nervous father. I’m nervous because I understand how important it is to keep your head straight and be accepted every time you do something different. It’s always a hit and a miss. Ananya and I’ve a lot of conflict. I feel she should do a certain kind of films but she wants to something else,” the Begum Jaan and Saaho actor tells us. Interestingly, the only time that the father-daughter duo worked on a film together was Liger.
And in a recent interaction, Ananya quipped how she has stopped paying heed to her father’s suggestions, especially after the debacle of the film co-starring Vijay Deverakonda. Reacting to her words, Chunky chuckles and says, “I’m old school and I feel heroes and heroines should sing their songs and do their dances and the male lead should be do his fights. But she thinks differently. But I guess her thought process is very Gen-Z. As they say, to each his own! I hope she’s right and so far, she has been right.”
Speaking how their tastes and preferences don’t align most of the times, Chunky recalls how he didn’t watch Ananya’s OTT debut, Call Me Bae, for the first few days after its release, as he didn’t understand the mood of the series. “Call me Bae wasn’t my kind of a show. In fact, I didn’t watch it for three days. But once I put it on and watched the first three episodes, I binge-watched it. I thought it was so good! I went on to watch the entire season twice. I really enjoyed it,” he states.
However, his opinion changed soon after, so much so that he began questioning where Ananya got her ‘acting genes’ from. “For the first time, I thought, ‘God, is this my daughter! Where did she learn to do this? I didn’t teach her.’ I’ve never done stuff like what she did in Call Me Bae. It’s different and difficult to shoulder so many episodes by a single actor. But she’s a hard-working girl. The best compliment an actor can receive is that yeh role toh iske liye likha gaya tha. But let me tell you, she isn’t like Bae in real life. So, when people say that a certain role is tailor-made for an actor, it means that they’ve done a good job,” Chunky smiles.
