When BTOB’s Minhyuk Claimed A K-pop Group Disrespected Them For Being ‘Too Loud’ – News18

The 34-year-old K-pop idol also recalled separate incidents where TVXQ’s Changmin and Apink praised BTOB.
BTOB (aka Born To Beat) is one of the popular K-pop bands. Originally a septet, the group made their debut in 2012 and is widely appreciated for its heavenly vocals. Despite being one of the best and most talented in the field, BTOB’s Lee Min Hyuk, aka Minhyuk, once recalled an incident where the band was disrespected by another K-pop group.
On an episode of Kiss The Radio in 2022, which featured Minhyuk as the MC and Golden Child’s Y and Joochan as guests, the BTOB member opened up about an incident that happened nine years ago. He reminisced about the time when the group did their vocal warm-up right before a show, and another group, who were no longer active, rebuked them for being too loud.
According to Koreaboo, Minhyuk said, “We always do vocal warm-ups before each show. And I’ll admit, it gets noisy in the waiting room. It gets very noisy when we do warm-ups. Although we’re also noisy even when we’re not doing warm-ups, sometimes we feel sorry for those in the next waiting room. We take our warm-ups seriously since going on stage is an important thing.”
He continued, “But the people in the room next to ours asked us to be quiet. It’s important for a good performance, and here they were telling us not to warm up.” Upon revealing his shock over their criticism of BTOB’s vocal warm-up, Minhyuk, without taking any name, pointed out the irony, sharing that the group would only lip-sync and never sing live. He said, “And these people, even though I can’t reveal their names… They really… They always only lip-sync.”
However, the BTOB vocalist emphasised that not every other artist had a problem with their vocal warm-ups. In the same episode, Minhyuk recalled the time when they were filming for Mnet‘s Kingdom: Legendary War and their waiting room was next to TVXQ’s Changmin. He shared that the septet had apologised to Changmin for being loud, but the latter had an unexpected reaction.
Minhyuk noted, “Max Changmin was using the room next to ours. We felt so sorry because we were being loud while doing warm-ups, but he came to us and said, ‘You guys are the best. This is what singers should do.‘ He praised us for it. I’m sorry, but I can’t help but compare this reaction with that of the previous group. He said, ‘This is why you all are so skilled.‘ And Max Changmin sunbaenim is known for his live singing skills.”
Recalling another incident, the BTOB shared that they were once in the next room to that of the K-pop girl group Apink. Minhyuk revealed that the members of both groups were really close. Hence, when BTOB’s vocal warm-up was too loud, Apink teased them, asking, “BTOB, please keep it down.” Minhyuk added, “We were joking around and ended up harmonising with each other with the waiting room wall between us.”
