Doctors of Gorakhpur AIIMS saved the life of a 26 year old youth. The jaw of this young man, resident of Gopalganj, Bihar, was broken when he was shot in the face, and the bullet got stuck under the eye.

Maxillofacial surgeon of AIIMS, Dr. Shailesh Kumar and his team performed a complex two-hour surgery and not only removed the bullet safely, but also repaired the damaged face of the young man.

AIIMS is in deteriorating condition after being shot After the incident, the young man was taken to the local hospital in critical condition, from where he was referred to BRD Medical College and then AIIMS. During emergency examination, doctors found that immediate surgery was the only option to remove the bullet.

Complex surgery: challenges at every step Dr. Shailesh said that it was very challenging to find the exact position of the bullet. There was a danger of the bullet moving while doing MRI, which could be life threatening. Therefore, X-ray was resorted to, but even in X-ray it was not easy to find the exact location of the bullet. Despite this, the doctors performed the surgery successfully.

Two hour surgery, amazing work of expert team Senior Resident Dr. Praveen Singh of the Department of Dentistry, Junior Residents Dr. Ankur Pandey and Dr. Divya Pathak, as well as Dr. Santosh Kumar Sharma and Dr. Priyanka Dwivedi of the Department of Anesthesia were involved in this complex surgery. After the surgery the condition of the young man is now stable.

Dr. Shailesh said that if the surgery was delayed, it would have been impossible to save the young man’s life. This was the first surgery of its kind at AIIMS Gorakhpur. Executive Director Dr. Ajay Singh congratulated the entire team on this success and inquired about the health of the patient.
