Railway employees held a massive demonstration in Moradabad division today against the non-increase of kilometer allowance. This protest was organized across the country on the call of All India Loco Running Staff Association and AIGC.

The protest went on from 10 am to 2 pm in all the lobbies of Moradabad division, in which NREU and SCST organizations also supported. Employees took part in the protests in Hapur, Bareilly, Moradabad, Rojava, Balamau, Laksar and Dehradun.
The main reason for the protest is the non-increase in Kilometer Allowance rates in line with the increase in Traveling Allowance (TA) rates. The 7th Pay Commission had recommended increasing various allowances including daily allowance to 25 when dearness allowance reached 50. However, the matter of kilometer allowance was left to the Railway Board.
Employees say that kilometer allowance is determined by 30 pay elements and 20 days’ daily allowance/travelling allowance. When there is an increase in any one of these, there should be a proportionate increase in the kilometer allowance. Many employee leaders including Rakesh Kumar, Mahendra Kumar, Amit Tyagi, Devendra Singh from Hapur branch participated in the demonstration.
