NMC Issues Guidelines for Processing Application Forms for PG Medical Courses – News18

The Medical Assessment and Rating Board received approximately 1,010 applications for the commencement of postgraduate courses at existing medical institutions

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently issued guidelines for the processing of postgraduate (PG) medical course applications for the academic year 2024-25. According to the notice, the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) has confirmed the application process for new PG/SS Medical Courses, as well as an increase in PG/SS Medical Course seats for the academic year 2024-25.

The notice states that 1,010 applications in total have been submitted to MARB for the start of postgraduate programmes in already-existing medical colleges. The MARB evaluates the applications following the standards outlined in the NMC website public notice.

Below is an explanation of the many accepted standards for evaluating the application procedure:

–– Applications have been evaluated and approved by the MARB at different levels with the relevant authority. A comprehensive analysis of the parameters and supporting materials, including the bank guarantee, application fees, affiliation consent, essentiality certificate, and pertinent correspondence, were part of the review process.

––  If a medical college or institution meets all of the criteria outlined in Step 1, it must submit/upload a completed and signed sworn affidavit, as well as a self-assessment form. The Dean/Principal, Nodal Officer, and Head of Department of the inspected department should make this submission within a specified timeframe, preferably with digital signatures on each page.

However, if a medical college or institution fails to meet all or any of the criteria listed in Step 1, they will be issued a Show Cause Notice (SCN) to correct the deficiencies. They must conduct a self-assessment before reconsidering the number of seats requested under the PG-Medical Education Regulation 2000. Following that, the Dean/Principal, Nodal Officer, and HOD of the inspected department must submit/upload a completed and signed compliance report, preferably with digital signatures on each page, within a specified timeframe.

If the compliance report satisfies the requirements, the College will be asked to upload or submit a self-assessment form, which it will evaluate internally, and a completed and signed sworn affidavit. This submission must be made by the Dean/Principal and the Head of the inspected department within the allotted time, ideally with digital signatures on every page.

–– Check the properly completed and signed sworn affidavit along with the compliance reports, AEBAS data by experts, and SAF (the college’s internal evaluation).

–– MARB will notify the medical college/institution of its approval or disapproval within the timeframe specified. Moreover, Letters of Permission (LOPs) will be issued to eligible entities with verified bank guarantees and/or undertakings under Section 28(3) of the NMC Act, 2019.

A Letter of Intent (LOI) will be issued initially for eligible entities who did not submit a bank guarantee and/or undertaking at the time of application; the Letter of Permission (LOP) will be issued following receipt and verification of the bank guarantee and/or undertaking.

–– According to Chapter IV Section 25 of the “Establishment of Medical Institutions, Assessment and Rating Regulations, 2023,” MARB must make the most recent annual assessment results and ratings of medical colleges/institutions available on its website or elsewhere in the public domain, to facilitate public understanding and consumption. This will be done after completing the process and before the first round of counselling.
