The TV show Anupamaa has become a favourite among viewers. Thanks to its compelling storyline and the stellar performances of its cast members. Rupali Ganguly, who portrays the lead role, has received an abundance of love from fans. Despite her popularity, the actress seemingly faces the challenge of balancing her professional and personal life due to long work hours.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Rupali Ganguly discussed the struggles of managing motherhood while juggling almost 12-hour workdays. Rupali shares her experience of leaving her seven-year-old son at home and acknowledges her husband, Ashwin Verma, for his unwavering support during her absence.
“I left my six and a half year old at home and television is like 12 hours a day plus like in the Bombay traffic traveling whatever time it takes every day. So leaving your son alone at home and him not having a mother suddenly the child is stuck to you always but now when you come home he’s like all the time, ‘Bapu, I want this.’ At times, it gets like, ‘Arey, yeh mujhe puchta hi nahi hai.’ It feels like I don’t exist in his life. So, the whole guilt is there all the time and then you try to overcompensate, which I now don’t. That guilt just doesn’t go away, it just doesn’t work, no matter where you go, what you do. That guilt of leaving your child and not being there for him,” she said.
She added, “On a day-to-day basis, I’m not there, his father is hands-on, but you still feel guilty. Father is more than a mother to him and I proudly say that he’s a better mother than I could ever be so even then the guilt just doesn’t leave.”
While the actress acknowledges that the show’s production house grants leaves for important occasions like Halloween, Christmas, Diwali, and other events, the guilt of not being there regularly for her son constantly weighs on her.
Apart from Rupali Ganguly, Anupamaa also stars Gaurav Khanna, Alpana Buch, Sukirti Kandpal, Vaquar Shaikh, Sudhanshu Pandey, Parakh Madan, Madalsa Sharma, Aurra Bhatnagar, Chandni Bhagwanani, Aadhya Barot, Trishaan Shah and others in key roles.
