Shah Rukh Khan had to ride a horse as part of Baazigar title song.
Abbas-Mustan said that since Shah Rukh Khan’s face wasn’t clearly visible in the scene, they used a body double for the horse-riding parts. Know why.
Shah Rukh Khan, still new to films back then, got a breakthrough role in Abbas-Mustan’s Baazigar after other actors turned it down. Fans remember his Zorro-like appearance in the film’s song, but in a recent interview, Abbas-Mustan revealed it was SRK’s body double who did the horse-riding scenes. They explained that since SRK’s face was mostly covered, they used a double for safety reasons.
During a fan Q&A on Radio Nasha, Abbas-Mustan addressed concerns about SRK falling off the horse in the song shoot due to his fear of horses. They explained that since Shah Rukh’s face wasn’t clearly visible in the scene, they used a body double for the horse-riding parts. Mustan added, “He was wearing a robe, a hat and a mask on his face and his eyes were covered. The horse riding was done by the horse owner, a body double.”
He went on to say, “When the song ends, when he turns and goes away from the camera, he is going down a slope, there is no horse there but Shah Rukh just acted as if he is riding a horse. No one can believe that he is not riding the horse. That’s how well he has performed.”
In the same interaction, another fan reminded Abbas-Mustan that Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan have both gotten their monikers, Khiladi and Baadshah, because of Abbas-Mustan films. The fan further suggested that perhaps the director duo should probably plan a Baazigar sequel which could have both Khiladi and Baadshah coming together. “Sequel ka zamana hai (It’s the time for sequels),” they said. Upon hearing their suggestion, Mustan immediately said, “Aapke paas kahani hai toh dijiye. Zaroor banayenge (If you have a story, please give. We’ll make).”
