Just before the Olympic Games, the Indian Boxing Federation (BFI) on Friday left the suspended International Boxing Association (IBA). Not only this, BFI has also taken membership of World Boxing.
This decision has been taken after the warning of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), in which the IOC had said that if the Indian federation remains associated with the International Boxing Association (IBA), then this sport could be removed from the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The committee derecognised the IBA in 2019 due to financial and governance issues. World Boxing was formed in April 2023. Its chairman is former IBA presidential contender Boris van der Vorst. See India’s overall performance in Olympics in graphics…
Indian boxers have secured 4 quotas for Paris Olympics
Indian boxers have so far secured 4 quotas for the Paris Olympics. These boxers are expected to win medals in the Olympic Games starting on 26 July. Last time in Tokyo, Lovlina Borgohain won bronze. Indian boxers have won 3 Olympic medals so far.

Boxing needs to be in the Olympic Games: BFI President
BFI President Ajay Singh said that it is important for boxing to retain its Olympic status, so we are happy to be associated with World Boxing. Singh said that we will work with the Executive Board of World Boxing for the future development of the sport, so that boxers around the world can have a bright future.

World Boxing President Van der Vorst said that India is a very important country for world boxing and we welcome BFI to the World Boxing family. This is a very exciting step which will increase our presence in Asia. We will work together with the Indian Federation towards a common goal.
Boxing events will be under the supervision of IOC in Paris Olympics
Boxing events will be held under the supervision of the IOC at the Paris Olympics starting on July 26. The International Boxing Association will not be a part of the Olympic Games for the second consecutive time. After the Tokyo Olympics, it will not be a part of the second consecutive major event.
