The new terminal at Tiruchi International Airport is now open, significantly boosting capacity and enhancing the travel experience.
This project, led by Egis, a global leader in construction and engineering, marks a major milestone in the airport’s development.
Covering 75,000 square meters, the new terminal can handle 4.5 million passengers a year and boasts a four-star Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment.
According to The Hindu, the terminal features a stunning design inspired by the local “gopuram” architecture, with a curved roof and zinc titanium cladding. The interior showcases traditional temple art and local cultural elements, including a multi-colored ceiling and kolam-patterned floors.
Egis completed the project in January, and it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sandeep Gulati, Egis’s South Asia Managing Director, praised the project’s success, highlighting their commitment to excellence and thanking all stakeholders for their support.
This new terminal not only enhances passenger capacity but also sets a new standard for sustainable and culturally rich airport design.
