The Mada Forest is the third largest stretch of mangrove forests in India with 24 mangrove tree species and more than 120 species of birds. If you are a bird-lover then here is an interesting fact for you. This mangrove is home to critically endangered white-backed vultures and long-billed vultures. Mangroves are known to stabilize the coastline by reducing erosion from storms, currents, tides and waves. Due to this, it also brings in various kinds of fishes and other organisms which seek food and shelter from predators.
Recently, the forest has been gaining footfalls as it allows one to submerge themselves in nature and appreciate its beauty. At the same time, it also offers the opportunity to walk on a tree and see the entire forest area. What’s more, is that the authorities have managed to make special arrangements in these forests for children to play and explore.
The mangroves in the forest are specially monitored by forest officials. This is the largest tourist area in the district and hence, the government has introduced entry fees for it. The entry ticket is Rs 50 for adults and Rs 20 for children. Right at the entrance of the mangroves, there is a big arch that will capture your attention. On the premises, you will also spot a green-coloured wooden bridge, on which you can take long walks. There are also spaces for families to rest and relax for a bit.
Everyone who visits these mangrove forests will feel like they are travelling through the depths of the forest. The wooden bridge is about 10 feet off the ground and hence walking on the bridge will mean being able to witness the true beauty of nature. There are also play areas for children to enjoy their time. Due to the summer vacation, the Mada forest saw many tourists visiting it.
