1. Pema Khandu became the CM of Arunachal: On June 13, Pema Khandu took oath as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. After him, Chowna Mein took oath as Deputy CM. Apart from him, Biyuram Wagha, Nyato Dukum, Ganril Denwang Wangsu, Wanki Lowang, Pasang Dorji Sona, Mama Natung, Dasanglu Pul, Balo Raja, Kento Jini and Ojing Tasing took oath as ministers.
Pema Khandu took oath as Chief Minister for the third consecutive time at the Dorjee Khandu Convention Centre in Itanagar.
- Pema Khandu is the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh since 2016.
- He assumed office for the first time after the resignation of Nabam Tuki.
- Pema Khandu became the Chief Minister for the first time on behalf of Congress.
- He joined the BJP during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
- This time in Arunachal, BJP has won 46 out of 60 seats.
- 10 candidates of the party including Pema Khandu were elected MLAs unopposed, hence elections were held only on 50 seats.
- In the state, BJP has an alliance with the National People’s Party (NPP), which has got 5 seats.
2. Approval received to change the name of Joshimath: On June 12, the central government approved the change of name of Joshimath located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Now Joshimath will be known by its ancient name Jyotirmath.
The route from Joshimath goes to Badrinath, Mana, Valley of Flowers and Hemkund.
- Also approved renaming Koshyakutoli tehsil of Nainital district as Shrikainchi Dham.
- Last year, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had announced the change of name in Chamoli district.
- Joshimath is considered the gateway to Badrinath Dham.
- It is believed that in the 8th century, Adi Guru Shankaracharya performed penance under the Kalpavriksha in this area.
- After this penance he attained divine knowledge.
- This place was called Jyotirmath because of the divine knowledge light and Jyotireshwar Mahadev.

3. Dr. Kapil Dua becomes AAHRS President: 13 June The Asian Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons (AAHRS) appointed Dr. Kapil Dua as president. The announcement was made at the 8th Annual Scientific Meeting and Surgical Workshop of AAHRS held in China.
Dr. Kapil Dua has around 20 years of experience in hair transplant surgery.
- Dr. Kapil Dua has been the President of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) from 2022-23.
- In 2016-17 he was President of the Association of Hair Restorational Surgery (AHRS).
- Dr. Kapil is the only hair transplant surgeon in India who has led National, Global and Asian organizations in hair restoration.
- AAHRS works to develop hair restoration surgery in Asia.

4. India’s first defense ETF launched: Asset management company Motilal Oswal i.e. AMC has launched ‘Motilal Oswal Nifty India Defense Index Fund’ on June 13. This defense index fund has opened from today and will close on June 24, 2024. It is an open-ended fund, which replicates or tracks the total return of the Nifty India Defense Index. In open-ended, stocks can be bought or sold at any time
Investors will be able to apply for this New Fund Offer (NFO) from June 13 to June 24. Mutual fund units can be bought and sold after the completion of its deadline.
- Investors can invest in this Defense Index Fund with a minimum of Rs 500 and any amount in multiples of Rs 1 thereafter.
- The money of investors investing in Motilal Oswal Nifty India Defense Index Fund will go into defense related companies.
- The Nifty India Defense Index comprises 15 companies, which are also part of the Nifty Total Market.
- This is the first index mutual fund to offer the option of investing in listed defense companies in India.
- The objective of this fund is to provide investors an opportunity to participate in the growth potential of the defense sector.
- When a mutual fund gets listed, it is called an NFO.
- All existing mutual funds are listed in this manner by bringing NFO.

5. Australia’s Titmuss sets world record in swimming: On June 12, at the Australian Olympic trials, swimmer Ariane Elizabeth Titmuss set a world record in the women’s 200 meter freestyle. Titmuss won the gold by completing the swimming race in 1 minute 52.23 seconds.
Australian swimmer Ariane Elizabeth Titmuss was born on September 7, 2000.
- Ariane Titmuss has broken the record set by her compatriot Molly O’Callaghan at last year’s World Championships.
- Molly completed the swimming race in 1 minute 51.85 seconds.
- Titmuss is the Olympic champion in the women’s 200m and 400m freestyle.
- He won gold in both categories at the 2020 Olympics.
- Ariarne Titmus set a world record in the long course 400m freestyle with a time of 3:56.40.

6. Retail inflation rate declined to 4.75% in May: On June 12, the National Statistical Office released the retail inflation data. Retail inflation stood at 4.75% in May. This is a 12-month low. It was 4.44% in July 2023.
- Retail inflation had come down to 4.83% in April 2023.
- Then it was at its lowest level in 11 months.
- It was 4.81% in June 2023, although food items had become expensive in the month of April.
- The increase and decrease in inflation depends on the demand and supply of the product.

7. Discovery of ice on Mars: On June 10, the European Space Agency’s (ESA) ExoMars and Mars Express missions detected large amounts of water on Mars. This is the first time the presence of ice has been detected near the equator of Mars.
On Mars, this ice is frozen over the Tharsis volcano.
- Tharsis is the tallest volcano in the entire solar system.
- It is approximately 4 thousand km wide and 10 km high.
- This ice was first observed by ESA’s ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO).
- According to research, these pieces of ice remain present for a few hours around sunrise, after which they vaporize in the sunlight.
- About 150,000 tonnes of ice vaporizes during the winter season.
- This amount of ice on Mars is equivalent to approximately 60 Olympic swimming pools.
- Water was discovered on Mars for the first time in 2007.
