PM Modi was honoured by Russian President Vladimir Putin in a ceremony in the Grand Hall of the Order of Saint Andrew

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Russia’s highest civilian award – the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle – for his outstanding efforts to promote partnership and friendship between New Delhi and Moscow. PM Modi was honoured by Russian President Vladimir Putin in a ceremony in the Grand Hall of the Order of Saint Andrew.

While accepting the award, PM Modi dedicated it to the people of India and to the traditional bonds of friendship between India and Russia. He also said that the recognition illuminates the special and privileged strategic partnership between the two countries.

Russia’s Highest Civilian Award – The Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle

The Order was established in 1698 by Tsar Peter the Great, in honour of Saint Andrew, the first apostle of Jesus, and patron saint of Russia. It was bestowed in a single class and was only awarded for the most outstanding civilian or military merit. During the Tsarist era, it housed the throne of the incumbent monarch.

This award was instituted over 300 years ago. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is the first Indian leader to be conferred with this award.
