In December 2022, the entry of heavy vehicles was first banned on it. At that time its condition had become very bad. Then this was done on the advice of the engineers of IIT Roorkee. However, even after that, heavy vehicles often passed through it. In such a situation, now a way has been given so that only two-wheelers can pass. Heavy vehicles will now pass through another bridge built near the concrete bridge. The bridge was found to be weak in the investigation of the Central Road Research Institute.
Letter to the government for building a new bridge
A letter has been written to the government to build a new bridge. The team of engineers has talked about building a new bridge here. However, the government has not yet agreed to this. During this time, the concrete bridge was becoming more weak. In such a situation, to save it, it will be used only for two-wheelers for the time being. The length of the concrete bridge is 300 meters. Only one meter of space has been given on both sides of the bridge for two-wheelers to pass. This bridge was built in the year 1914. Its width is about 7 meters, while there are six lofts on both sides of the bridge.
Five lakh people travel every day
About 5 lakh people travel on the bridge every day. This bridge was the main route for people from more than 20 areas of the city including Sitapur Road, Khadra, Triveni Nagar, Madiyanv, Jankipuram, Nirala Nagar, Aliganj, Puraniya, BKT, Intauja to go to Imambara, Chowk or Medical College. Now they will have to cover an additional distance of about one kilometer.
