Jharu’s wife Kheru Nisha (70), a resident of Sopari Khurd in Gauri Bazar police station area, was ill for the past few days. She was being treated by a doctor in Betalpur. On Sunday, Kheru Nisha’s granddaughter Rukhsana (23) was going to Betalpur on foot to show her grandmother to the doctor. They were walking on the railway track of Gorakhpur-Chhapra railway section. As soon as they reached km number 464/28-26 between Betalpur-Gauri Bazar, they saw the train coming from Deoria.

On this, Rukhsana took her grandmother to the lower railway track. At the same time, Maurya Express was coming from Gorakhpur towards Deoria. Due to the loud noise of the train, the grandmother and granddaughter could not notice the other train coming on the track and both of them got hit by it. On receiving information about the incident, Sub Inspector Shivram Meena of Deoria RPF post reached the spot with the staff. He informed the Gauri Bazaar police.
Gauri Bazar police reached the spot. Woman constable Kanchan of Gauri Bazar police station searched both the women. A mobile number was found with them, which helped in their identification. Police took both the bodies in their custody and sent them for postmortem. Gauri Bazar police station in-charge Dinesh Kumar Mishra said that the accident happened while crossing the railway crossing.
