1. Sheikh Hasina resigns from the post of Prime Minister of Bangladesh
On August 5, after the anti-reservation movement in Bangladesh turned violent, PM Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post. She said that now the army will form an interim government. At present, curfew has been imposed in Bangladesh for an indefinite period.

Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman confirmed this.

2. In Ujjain, 1500 people created a world record by playing Damru together
On August 5, the first world record of Mahakal’s ride was made in Ujjain. 1500 people played Damru together for 10 minutes on the banks of Shipra river on Shakti Path near Mahakal Lok. After this, Ujjain’s name has been registered in the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest number of people playing Damru.

For this, separate groups of 25-25 Damru players were formed.

3. Novak Djokovic completes tennis’ Golden Slam
On August 4, Novak Djokovic completed the Golden Slam of tennis. Djokovic won the gold in the men’s singles tennis at the Paris Olympics by defeating Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz 7-6, 7-6. This is the first Olympic gold of Djokovic’s career.

Actually, the one who wins gold in the 4 Grand Slams of tennis i.e. Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open Tennis along with Olympics is considered as Golden Slam winner.

Djokovic has won 24 Grand Slams and became the 5th player to win the Golden Slam.

4. Bharatnatyam dancer Yamini Krishnamurthy passes away
On August 4, Bharatnatyam dancer Yamini Krishnamurthy passed away at the age of 84. She made her Bharatnatyam debut in 1957 at the age of 17. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1968, the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2016.

Krishnamurthy was also a master of the Kuchipudi dance form.

1. Supreme Court issues notice to Centre, Delhi Government, MCD on Delhi coaching incident
The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the Delhi coaching incident and issued notices to the Centre, Delhi government and MCD. Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan called coaching centres death chambers. They have said that coaching centres are playing with the lives of children. The court has issued notices to the Centre, Delhi government and MCD and sought information about security arrangements.

2. Admission schedule released for the academic year 2024-25 of Banaras Hindu University

3. Supreme Court orders re-medical test of UPSC candidate
The Supreme Court gave its verdict on the case of recruitment of candidates who had qualified UPSC Civil Services Exam in 2014 and were stuck for 10 years. Actually, Rakshit Shivam Prakash had secured 93 rank in UPSC exam in 2014, but his BMI i.e. body mass index was 31.75, which falls in the OB category. He was called for medical test again, but he could not give the test. After this, his joining was stopped for 10 years. Now, after the order of SC, he will have to undergo medical test again, and if found fit in it, he may get an offer for service again.
