According to the video, plucking nose hair can cause serious brain complications.

Personal care routines typically encompass a wide range of self-care activities, from skincare to hair grooming. While trimming nails and facial hair are common practices, some people are particularly meticulous about managing their nose hair. However, what may seem like a harmless habit could come with hidden risks. A recent Instagram video has gone viral, showcasing a simulation that explains the potential dangers of plucking nose hair.

Shared by content creator Zack D Films, the video highlights the risks of plucking nose hairs. The animation shows hair growing inside the nostril and questions, “Most people just go ahead and pluck out unwanted nose hairs but should you actually do this?” The video’s explanation leads to a straightforward no as the answer. It explains, “These hair actually act as a filter preventing harmful irritants from entering your nasal passage and plucking then out removes this filter, allowing bacteria to freely flow into your respiratory system.”

The video further warns, “In rare cases, this bacteria can travel from the nose to the brain causing serious complications.”

Take a look at the video here:

The simulation video sparked a range of reactions from online viewers, with many describing it as a “new fear unlocked.”

One user commented, “That’s why I never pull out my nose hairs and if my nose hairs come out from the nose I just cut it with scissors.”

Another viewer found the content “disturbing,” stating, “These visuals are disturbing especially the nose hair part.”

Someone else advised, “Yeah, it’s better to just trim and make them shorter so they don’t stick out.”

On the other hand, one sceptic argued, “Not true. Bacteria are too small to be filtered by nose hair. Nose hair only filters large particles.”

While one in agreement, wrote, “He’s right guys. It’s called cavernous sinus syndrome. Cause there’s no valf inside of the venas on upper extremities from heart. I’m not trying to exaggerate but it would kill.”

In one of his YouTube videos, NHS doctor, Karan Rajan also highlighted the risks of plucking nose hair. He explained, “You have two types of nose hairs. You have microscopic cilia, these filter mucus and send it to the back of the throat where it ends up in the stomach, and vibrissae, the big ones you want to yank out.”

Plucking the hairs, he warned, can cause the germs around the follicle to get inside easily, causing infection. He added that this could lead to brain infections.

“That’s because the same veins that carry blood out of the nose meet up the veins that carry blood out of the brain. So if the germs end up back there in the brain, it can cause inflammation in the brain, sometimes resulting in brain abscess. This is incredibly rare but can cause serious problems for people with weak immune systems,” he continued. In conclusion, Rajan advised that instead of plucking the nose hairs, it is better to just trim them.
