The woman’s family said that we were also getting our daughter treated for the child. She went to her in-laws’ house from her maternal home on 29th August. A panel of 3 doctors is conducting the post-mortem of the woman’s body. Her husband and other family members have fled from the spot. The incident is from Mohanpur village of Chaukiya police station area. The police is investigating.

The family members had absconded even after leaving the mother-in-law

Arfan lives with his wife Sonam (30) in Mohanpur village. Sonam’s body was found lying on the bed in the house on Saturday evening. Arfan informed his in-laws about the matter. After which the woman’s brother Lalu, a resident of Ajitmal, reached the spot at around 7 pm. Here he saw that Sonam’s body was lying on the bed. Everyone except Sonam’s mother-in-law, including her husband, is absconding.

Brother-in-law called and said, your sister has committed suicide

The people of the maternal side informed the police station about the incident. After which Chaubia police and forensic team reached the spot. The team investigated the spot. Sonam’s brother Lalu has told that yesterday evening my brother-in-law called and said that your sister has committed suicide. When we reached our sister’s house on receiving the information, her body was lying on the bed. There were marks of injuries on the neck and legs. All the in-laws had fled from the spot, but her mother-in-law was present in the house.

Mother-in-law said – there are 200 meters of blood-stained clothes lying

When asked, they said that Sonam had committed suicide. We informed the Chaubia police station about this matter. When the police reached the spot and strictly questioned her mother-in-law, she told that Sonam’s blood-soaked clothes were stuffed in a sack and thrown in a pond 200 meters away from the house. On this, the forensic team and the police recovered Sonam’s blood-soaked clothes. My sister was made to wear other clothes. She was cleaned.

My sister’s in-laws used to beat her for not having children

Lalu said, our sister was married 7 years ago. Everyday her in-laws and husband used to harass her for not having a child. We were getting our sister treated by a doctor in Etawah. Along with this, additional dowry was being demanded continuously. On 29th August, our sister had come to her in-laws’ house from her home.

Sonam used to stay at her maternal home most of the time due to harassment

Nephew Asif said that I had come to drop Aunt Sonam on 29th August. Because before this she was staying at her home in Ajitmal for about three months. Because after marriage she was being tortured. Due to this she used to stay more at her parents’ house than at her in-laws’ house. The way her dead body was found. The way she was being tortured for not having a child.

It seems clear from this that my aunt’s in-laws and her husband have murdered her. Chaubia police station in-charge has informed that on receiving the information of the incident, the police station and forensic team reached the spot. Prima facie, the case seems to be of suicide. The body of the woman has been taken into custody and post-mortem is being done by a panel of three doctors. Further action will be taken by registering a case on the basis of the family’s complaint and the post-mortem report.
