The court said that prima facie the functioning of the District Judge is disorganized. It seems that the courts are being less friendly towards undertrials who have been in jail for a long time.

An FIR has been registered against Ashfaq in Dhumanganj police station on murder and other charges. He has filed a bail application. Told that the accused is in jail since July 2019 and not a single witness has been produced.
The court said that this court is repeatedly feeling that the trials are going on at a very slow pace in Prayagraj. Orders have been passed earlier also but to no avail.
Earlier, the court had sought information from the District Judge about the steps taken to expedite the trial of cases in which the accused have been in jail for a long time. On September 17, the trial court rejected the reply sent regarding delay in the trial.
The Court found that the trial court’s failure to take stringent measures for the attendance of witnesses was not justified. On 25 September the court was again informed that no witnesses had yet been examined. On this, the court has asked for a fresh report of the situation.
