Teacher Sunil Kumar (34) was a resident of Sudamapur village of Jagatpur police station area in Rae Bareli district. Father Ram Gopal lives in the village. On December 10, 2020, Sunil got a government job in the Basic Education Department. On March 12, 2021, he joined Panhauna Primary School (PMShree Vidyalaya) in Singhpur Block, 62 km from Amethi District Headquarters. In Amethi, Sunil was living on rent for three months at Munna Awasthi’s place at Ahorwa Bhawani intersection of Shivratanganj police station area. The family consisted of wife Poonam Bharti and two daughters – Drishti (5) and Mickey (2).

I, Poonam Bharti, had come to Sumitra Hospital in Rae Bareli district on 18 August 24 to get my child’s medicine. There, Chandan Verma, son of Mayaram Maurya, resident of Telia Kot, Rae Bareli, did obscene acts with me. When I refused, he slapped me and my husband. Threatened to kill.

When protested, caste based abuses were used. Said, if you report, I will kill you. Even before this he had threatened to kill. My family’s life is in danger. If any incident or accident happens to me or my husband in future, Chandan Verma will be responsible for it. Sir, I request you to please register my report and take appropriate action. It will be a great blessing.

Neighbors said – the sound of gunshot was heard five times.

Ram Manohar Yadav, the medical store operator located outside teacher Sushil Kumar’s house, said, when the sound was heard, we called the people nearby. Everyone came. There was police at this intersection, they also came. The sound of gunshot was heard five times. It was not known how the miscreants came or from whom they came. There is an entry way into the house from the back also. The house is dilapidated and is being rebuilt, it is possible that miscreants have come from there. I didn’t see it coming from the front. Master Saheb was very straightforward. He was living here for two-three months. Didn’t care much about anyone. They were not supposed to come anywhere near each other.

Father Ram Gopal said- I have two sons. The elder son lives with the family in Mumbai. Sunil was small. I worked as a laborer and educated both my sons. When Sunil got a job, he remained alone for many days. Later he also took his family along.

He told- Sunil was surrounded by miscreants a few days ago. Then the people nearby chased away the miscreants. Then the son had also filed a case. Today the Inspector came from the police station and started interrogating us. Then we started suspecting that something untoward had happened to our son. My entire family was destroyed.
