Allahabad High Court rejected the bail application of Shahrukh of Izzatnagar Bareilly, accused of breaking the idol of Lord Shiva and fatally attacking a priest with a knife in the month of Sawan. The court said that soft attitude towards such people will harm the religious sentiments and social fabric of the people.

The petitioner’s brother Sajid Khan had sent a letter to the SP on 23 July 2024 informing that the petitioner was at home at the time of the incident. Later went to Mandi market at 8.30. The government lawyer said that he was involved in breaking the statue. Co-accused Arshad had said by name that if Shahrukh does not run away quickly, we will be caught. Priest Ram Kishan Sharma and wife Anita are eyewitnesses. Ram Kishan was also attacked with a knife by the petitioner. Co-accused Akram has been caught from the spot. A knife has also been recovered from the bush. Crime is an attempt to disturb communal harmony. On this basis the court rejected the bail application.
