A farmer in Haryana’s Jhajjar was electrocuted while working in his field when he came in contact with a high-voltage broken electric wire. The death of the farmer, named Sandeep, was allegedly the result of negligence by the electricity department after a lineman reportedly assured him that the wire was not a live one.

As per local reports, Sandeep had gone to harvest paddy in his field in Bhurawasa Village when he noticed a broken electric wire. He called up a lineman named Updesh, who reportedly assured him that there was no electricity passing through the wire and that it was safe to remove by hand. However, as soon as Sandeep touched the wire, he suffered a severe electric shock. His family rushed him to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Sandeep’s wife has filed a police complaint against the lineman, Junior Engineer (JE), Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), and Executive Engineer (XEN) of the electricity department.

According to the brother of the deceased, an 11,000 KV line runs through the field, with its wires hanging dangerously low. Despite multiple complaints, the condition of the wires was never addressed, with the lineman reportedly stating that it was not within the scope of his responsibilities.

The incident has triggered public anger in the village against the electricity department. Villagers have called on power minister Anil Vij to take action against the negligent employees and provide adequate compensation to Sandeep’s family.
