Coldplay’s Chris Martin recently had a close call during a performance in Australia. On November 3, the British rock singer was wrapping up the last of four concerts at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, entertaining fans with stories about Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour when the unexpected happened—Martin, 47, took an unintended plunge through an open trap door on stage. Footage shared by fans on social media captures the shocking moment. As Martin was moving backwards down a raised runway, engrossed in connecting with the crowd, he unexpectedly tumbled through the trap door. Gasps echoed from the audience as crew members rushed to his aid, helping him back to his feet.

A concert goer who filmed the mishap posted the clip on X. “The moment Chris Martin fell through a trap door right in front of me at the Coldplay concert tonight,” wrote the user.

After recovering, Martin lightened the mood with his typical humour, reassuring the crowd by saying, “That’s not planned!” He even laughed it off by adding, “Holy s***, that was nearly a YouTube moment!” before expressing gratitude to a crew member who had come to his aid.

Coldplay’s international tour, which has been going strong since March 2022, is supposed to run until September 2025, concluding with a 10-day stint at London’s Wembley Stadium. Melbourne marked the end of the band’s shows in the city and Martin, along with guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion, will next head to Sydney, followed by performances in New Zealand, informed People.

Meanwhile, the band has also been working on new music. In June, they released their 10th studio album, Moon Music, accompanied by the single ‘feelslikeimfallinginlove’. Despite the buzz around their new album and ongoing tour, Martin recently shared in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that Coldplay plans to release only 12 full-length albums before moving away from traditional releases.

“We are only going to do 12 proper albums, and that’s real,” he shared during an interview with People in September. “So if we do something together after that creatively beyond touring, then it’ll be something different, or it’ll be a side thing, or it’ll be a compilation of things we hadn’t finished,” Martin added.
