The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court rejected the petition filed against BJP MLA Dinesh Rawat. A petition was filed to cancel the election of MLA Dinesh Rawat.

Rejecting the petition, the court said that under the Representation of the People Act, there is no restriction on political parties fielding candidates for the post of Legislative Assembly member.
This order was rejected by the single bench of Justice Abdul Moin after hearing the election petition filed by Haidergarh resident Sheshmani Tripathi. The court was told that there is no such provision in the Representation of the People Act under which any political party can field its candidate.
The court was also told that Dinesh Rawat had given a proper affidavit declaring himself as the candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party. The court was also told that Section 2G of the Representation of the People Act gives the right to an individual to contest the election of a member of the State Legislative Assembly, but not to a group of individuals or an organization.
The lawyer appearing on behalf of Dinesh Rawat, while opposing the petition, said that under the Representation of the People Act, there is no restriction on political parties fielding candidates for the post of Legislative Assembly member. After hearing both the parties, the court found that under the Representation of the People Act, there is no restriction on political parties fielding candidates for the post of Legislative Assembly member.
