Ajay Devgn has announced that his next directorial film will feature Akshay Kumar in the lead role. The revelation came during the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2024, where the two actors were in conversation with Sonal Kalra. When asked about their collaboration, Ajay said with a smile, ““This is something we were going to announce later but I think this is a great platform. We are already working on something together where I am directing the film and he is in the film.”
Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn were recently seen together in Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again. While Ajay took the lead as Bajirao Singham, Akshay made a special appearance. The movie also featured Kareena Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Tiger Shroff in key roles.
The duo has previously shared the screen in films like Khakee, Sooryavanshi, and Suhaag. Ajay, apart from acting, has directed several films, including Bholaa, Runway 34, Shivaay, and U Me Aur Hum.
Ajay Devgn has directed four films, showcasing a mix of emotional storytelling and action-packed visuals. His directorial debut, U Me Aur Hum (2008), starring himself and Kajol, was praised for its emotional depth but underperformed at the box office with a collection of approximately ₹40 crore. Shivaay (2016), an ambitious action-thriller known for its stunning visuals, earned around ₹148 crore globally but fell short of being a blockbuster. Runway 34 (2022), a gripping aviation drama, received critical acclaim but was a box-office disappointment, collecting just ₹33 crore. His latest venture, Bholaa (2023), a remake of the Tamil hit Kaithi, fared better commercially with Rs 110 crore worldwide, reflecting his growth as a filmmaker despite mixed success.
Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn’s cop drama Singham has received widespread acclaim for the outstanding performances of its cast, its impressive action sequences and impactful dialogues.
According to Sacnilk, Singham Again, released on November 1, has generated over Rs 214 crore net in India to date. The actioner has left behind Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan starrer Fighter, released in January this year. The Siddharth Anand film grossed over Rs 212 crore net in India. Singham Again has now become the second-highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2024.
