Rakesh Roshan’s Karan Arjun became a cult movie for its dramatic plot, songs, and action sequences. Now, the action drama is all set to win the hearts of the audiences (again) on November 22. Ahead of the anticipated re-release, Rakesh Roshan opened up on the iconic ‘Mere Karan Arjun Aaenge’ scene and recalled how Rakhee brought new life to her character.

Fans of the 1995 film well remember Rakhee delivering the lines ‘Mere Karan Arjun Aaenge’ with pain in her eyes. The dialogue became one of the most memorable parts of the film and a key moment in Indian cinema. During an interview with The Indian Express, Rakesh Roshan said the atmosphere on the set changed when Rakhee performed the lines. “The way Rakhee performed and said those lines with such conviction made the base of the story. Had she just said the dialogue simply, nobody would have believed it, but because she said it with such an impact, it showed in her eyes, we could feel the vibration. That is what made people also want Karan Arjun to come back”, said Rakesh.

Further talking about her casting, he said the veteran actress was impressed by the story and immediately said yes. He said, “I have worked with Rakheeji a lot as an actor also, so I went to her to narrate the story. When I told her the story she asked me if I was there just to get her opinion or cast her. She immediately said yes. It was the pivotal role.”

During the same interview, he also remembered how he humorously briefed Amrish Puri to kill Karan Arjun ‘as brutally as possible’. Walking down memory lane, Rakesh Roshan revealed the one question that Amrish Puri had asked him while casting. Recalling the incident, Roshan said, “Amrishji and I have been very close friends, so when I went to him, he asked me, ‘Do you think Karan Arjun will return?’ On this, he humorously replied, ‘Aap jitni buri tarah se unko maarenge, who utni buri tarah se waapas aaenge aapko maarne ke liye (The more brutally you kill them, the more they would want to return to kill you.)
