According to local residents, Shankar Chattopadhyay was reportedly beaten outside his home on Tuesday, after which he was not seen in the area.
In a shocking incident in the New Talliganj area of Regent Park in Kolkata, a police officer was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Thursday, Novemeber 28. The deceased was identified as Shankar Chattopadhyay, an Assistant Sub-Inspector at Alipur Police Station. The circumstances surrounding the death raised several questions, with neighbours accusing the deceased’s family of involvement.
According to local residents, Shankar Chattopadhyay was reportedly beaten outside his home on Tuesday, after which he was not seen in the area. When his body was discovered, neighbours claimed that it had already started to decompose. They also raised concerns about signs of severe torture on the officer’s body.
Speculation from residents suggested that the officer might have been assaulted due to a domestic dispute, possibly related to his promotion. The neighbours also alleged that the family attempted to obtain a death certificate throughout Thursday but faced initial resistance from the police. It was only after the situation gained attention that authorities intervened.
Shankar’s family, including his wife and son, did not come forward to speak publically. However, his brother, who arrived from Murshidabad, spoke to the media and mentioned that he was unable to open the door of the house.
Despite the mounting allegations, he refused to confirm that his relative had been beaten to death, stating that every family goes through its own difficulties. He also denied the claims of assault.
As the investigation into the cause of death continues, the situation sparked anger among neighbours, who voiced their suspicions about the involvement of Shankar Chattopadhyay’s family in the incident.
