Here’s a look at India’s top performers and record holders in the four Day-Night Test matches played so far.
After crushing Australia by 295 runs in the first Test of the ongoing five-match series played at Optus Stadium in Perth, the Indian men’s cricket team will face the Baggy Greens in the second match at Adelaide Oval. The second Test of the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is going to be a day-night affair and will be played with a pink ball.
India has played four Day-Night Tests so far and managed to win three of them. But in the only pink ball Test played away from home, India suffered a humiliating defeat against Australia after getting bowled out for just 36 in the second innings.
India last played a Day-Night Test in March 2022, and after a gap of more than 2.5 years, India will feature in the D/N Test again.
Ahead of the start of the India-Australia D/N Test at Adelaide Oval from Friday (December 6), here’s a look at India’s performance in four Day-Night Test matches played so far:

- Highest total: 347 for 9 (declare) in 89.4 overs against Bangladesh in Kolkata, November 2019.
- Lowest total: 36 all out in 21.2 overs against Australia in Adelaide, December 2020.
- Biggest win (by innings): India beat Bangladesh by an innings and 46 runs in Kolkata, November 2019.
- Biggest win (by runs): India beat Sri Lanka by 238 runs in Bengaluru, March 2022.
- Biggest win (by wickets): India beat England by 10 wickets in Ahmedabad, February 2021.
- Most runs: 277 runs in four Tests by Virat Kohli.
- Highest score: 136 runs from 194 balls against Bangladesh in Kolkata, November 2019.
- Most 100s: 1 century in four Tests by Virat Kohli.
- Most 50s: 2 half-centuries in one Test by Shreyas Iyer.
- Most ducks: 2 zeros in three Tests by Cheteshwar Pujara.
- Most sixes: 4 maximums in one Test by Shreyas Iyer.
- Most sixes in an innings: 3 sixes by Shreyas Iyer during his 92-run knock against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru, March 2022.
- Most wickets: 18 wickets in four Tests by Ravichandran Ashwin.
- Best bowling figures (innings): 6 wickets for 38 runs in 21.4 overs by Axar Patel against England in Ahmedabad, February 2021.
- Best bowling figures (match): 11 wickets for 70 runs in 36.4 overs by Axar Patel against England in Ahmedabad, February 2021.
- Most five-wicket hauls: 2 fifers in two Tests by Axar Patel.
- Most dismissals: 7 (4 catches & 2 stumpings) by Rishabh Pant.
- Highest partnership: 99 runs for the 4th wicket between Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane against Bangladesh in Kolkata, November 2019.
- Most matches: 4 Tests each by Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin.
- Most wins as captain: 2 wins for Virat Kohli in three Tests.
In the last day-night Test played between India and Australia at Adelaide Oval from December 17 to 19 in 2020, Australia defeated India by 8 wickets after chasing down the target of 90 runs in 21 overs.
