Vidhu Vinod Chopra has just given fans an exciting update about his upcoming projects, leaving them eagerly waiting. While promoting Zero Se Start, his film documenting the making of 12th Fail, the filmmaker revealed that sequels to his blockbuster hits 3 Idiots and Munna Bhai are currently in the writing stage.
In a recent chat with Dainik Bhaskar, Chopra confirmed, “I am writing both 2 Idiots and Munna Bhai 3. On top of that, I am trying to make a film for kids. The film’s title hasn’t been decided yet. I am also writing a horror comedy, and it is very interesting. First, we will write for 1-2 years, and then it should be made. I think the possibility of 2 Idiots and Munna Bhai 3 is there soon.”
Chopra explained why he takes his time with scripts, saying, “I could have made 2-3 sequels of Munna Bhai and 3 Idiots. Bahut maal kama leta main (I could have earned loads of money), bought a big car and a big house. But if those weren’t good films, I wouldn’t have enjoyed talking about them because I would know that I compromised my conscience just to mint money.”
The Munna Bhai and 3 Idiots franchises, both directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, are among the most beloved and successful in Indian cinema. The Munna Bhai series, starting with Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003) and followed by Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006), features the lovable gangster Munna Bhai, played by Sanjay Dutt, and his hilarious yet heartwarming adventures. The films are known for their witty humor and strong social messages. On the other hand, 3 Idiots (2009) is a comedy-drama that tackles the pressures of the educational system, starring Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi.
Meanwhile, Vidhu Vinod Chopra last directed 12th Fail, based on the book by Anurag Pathak. It tells the story of Abhilash, a young man from a small town, who faces immense pressure to succeed in his 12th-grade exams but ends up failing.
