Los Angeles continued to witness several major wildfires, mostly still uncontained as officials confirmed at least seven deaths but warned that the actual will remain unclear until it’s safe for investigators to access neighborhoods. Evacuation orders have impacted tens of thousands of people as firefighters made some progress owing to the weakening of Santa Ana winds. Here are the latest updates on the deadly wildfires in Los Angeles:

3. The Eaton fire near Pasadena burned over 5,000 structures while Pacific Palisades, the largest of the fires burning in Los Angeles, destroyed over 5,300 structures.
4. The Los Angeles county sheriff warned that the death toll is likely to rise as teams search the burned areas but their work has been hindered by conditions inside the fire zones, a spokesperson with the sheriff’s department told the Los Angeles Times.
5. A new brush fire started in the San Fernando Valley and prompted evacuation orders in the community of Calabasas.
6. Kevin McGowan, the director of emergency management for Los Angeles county, said, “We’re facing a historic natural disaster. And I think that can’t be stated strong enough.”
7. Firefighters said the destruction was unlike any they had seen in their decades-long careers and officials described the scenes as “apocalyptic”. Robert Luna, the LA county sheriff, said some areas “look like a bomb was dropped on them.”
