Masaba Gupta recently opened up about how she wished she had given herself more time to return to work after welcoming her baby.

Masaba Gupta has been quite candid on social media ever since she started her pregnancy journey. Now, that the ace fashion designer has welcomed a baby, she is using her social media platform to talk about postpartum and its effects. Recently, she hosted an AMA session on her Instagram where she answered a bunch of questions asked by her fans.

During the AMA session, a user asked Masaba Gupta if she was ‘healing okay after delivery’. The designer said, “I wish I gave myself some more time.” She mentioned that she wished she had not joined work before her 40 days of postpartum were up. In a conversation with Indian Express, Dr. Shaunak Ajinkya, consultant psychiatrist at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai, said, “Whether the delivery is vaginal or cesarean, the mother’s body needs time to heal. The uterus needs time to contract back to its pre-pregnancy size, and any tears or incisions require healing. The body sheds the uterine lining through vaginal bleeding (Lochia) during this period.”

During postpartum, mothers need to relax and get better before going back to their previous schedule. The postpartum period helps the mother form a bond with her child and it is also a time when the new mother needs care and rest.

  1. 1. Plan Ahead: Secure reliable childcare well in advance. Visit potential providers, meet caregivers, and understand their policies. Discuss flexible work arrangements with your employer if possible. Create a household schedule or chore chart to divide responsibilities with your partner.
  2. 2. Prepare for the First Few Weeks: Gradually increase the time you spend away from your baby to help them adjust. Create a consistent bedtime routine for your baby to minimize disruptions. Prepare your work bag and your baby’s diaper bag the night before to reduce morning stress.
  3. 3. Communicate with Your Employer: Communicate your availability and any limitations you may have. Take advantage of any employee assistance programs or flexible work policies offered by your company.
  4. 4. Prioritize Self-Care: Even short breaks can make a big difference. Schedule time for exercise, relaxation, or simply enjoying a cup of coffee. Seek support and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
  5. 5. Be Patient and Kind to Yourself: It may take time to find the right balance between work and motherhood. Acknowledge your accomplishments and don’t be too hard on yourself.
