In Kanpur, cyber thugs defrauded a woman of Rs 2 lakh. The miscreants tricked the woman into earning money sitting at home by posing as a crude oil company operator. He took him to Telegram app and got him to download an app and as soon as the app was downloaded, Rs. 1.50 lakh was deducted from his account.

Sonyali Singh, resident of GIC Campus Lal Imli, told that she was surfing Facebook a few days ago. During that time, a vicious person contacted him on Facebook and introduced himself as an employee of a crude oil company. The vicious person lured Sonyali Singh into earning money sitting at home. The victim told Sonyali to invest in the company and the company would return the money to him with huge profits.
Sonyali said yes to this. After that he was made to download an app through Telegram app. As soon as it was downloaded, Rs 30,000 was deducted from his account. When she complained to the company employees, they sent the link on messenger and downloaded that app in Sonyali’s mobile. After which, on 16 and 17 January 2025, Rs 1.20 lakh was embezzled from the victim’s account.
According to Inspector Colonelganj, an FIR has been registered under the IT Act on the complaint of the victim. The matter is being investigated.
