Ganesh Chaturthi holds an immense significance among the Hindus. The 10-day-long festival is celebrated across the country with great enthusiasm and fervour. It is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha who is considered as the god of wisdom, wealth and fortune. The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is mainly celebrated in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and other parts of the country.
On the occasion, the Traffic Police Department of Krimambakkam Police Station under the Southern Region of Puducherry offered a special prayer to mark the day. The festival was celebrated under the guidance of police inspector Ganesan. To go eco-friendly, the police department opted for a clay deity which will not be harmful to the soil.
The department decorated the idol with Arugampul garland, Erukum flower garland, Sugarcane, Rye, Pongal, Kelvaraku, Sweet Avil, Borikadal and various fruits. The puja of lord Ganesha also included bhajans of Lord Ganesha.
People around the country find unique ways to mark the beginning of the festival, either being creative or simply leaving the devotees in awe. Earlier, students from the union territory made headlines as they dedicated four months to meticulously designing a towering 15-foot-tall idol of lord Ganesha.
Keeping the environment in mind, the impressive idol of lord Ganesha is constructed entirely from 450 kilograms of paper and stands as a testament to their commitment to preserving marine life, reported ANI.
Under the guidance of their teacher, the youth from Puducherry’s Tilasuppet ditched the chemical mixture and opted for newspapers and glue. 15 youth and students went door to door and collected 450 kg of newspaper. They also used 200 kg of glue and it took them four months to create the idol. The 15-foot-tall Ganesh idol has a strumming guitar from bamboo sticks and wrapped paper.
The idol weighing 650 kg is displayed near the Government Medical College on Valudavur Road. Ganesh Chaturthi began on Tuesday.
