Bangalore University has informed that their Convocation, which was set for September 29, has been postponed. The effect of the state-wide bandh on Friday is still in question

Kannada Okkuta, an umbrella association for Pro-Kannada organisations led by Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj, has called for yet another statewide bandh on September 29 in the midst of the present protest against the Karnataka government’s decision to release 5,000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu from state dams. The demand for the Karnataka Bandh comes just one day after the Bengaluru Bandh, which took place on September 26.

Due to the bandh, Bangalore University announced the postponement of its 58th Convocation, which had been scheduled for September 29. It is important for students to be aware that Bangalore University has not yet announced a new date for the convocation. The University announced that the revised date would be communicated to students as soon as it was decided.

The Bengaluru Bandh on September 26 also prompted the University to postpone the Semester II and IV Degree Examinations from September 26 to September 27, 2023. Through a formal circular posted on the college’s official website, this information was made available to all students.

At the moment there has been no official notification about the impact of the state-wide bandh on September 29 on schools and universities. For any updates on the closure of schools/ colleges, it is encouraged that students and parents stay in touch with the administrators and instructors of their individual institutes.

Private school administrators, according to a Times Now report, have expressed concern about disruptions brought on by bandhs during the ongoing exam season. Nonetheless, they had requested the government to decide whether or not educational institutions should be open on September 26 in order to ensure the safety of children. On that particular day, a notification announcing the closure of all educational institutions was released.

A similar decision will most likely be made on September 29 after taking stock of the situation at the time.

The vast majority of the organisations that earlier supported the farmers’ protests have retracted their support, signalling that they would most likely participate in Friday’s Karnataka bandh.

According to reports, the Hotels Association and the Ola Uber Drivers’ and Owners’ Association have both chosen to take part in the state-wide Bandh on Friday. Marketplaces, schools, colleges, universities, and public transit services, such as buses and taxis are most likely to also be shut down, causing inconvenience to the people.
